Old Age Security
The OAS pension is a monthly payment available to seniors who meet the following requirements.
- You must be 65 years or older
- You must live in Canada and be a Canadian citizen or a person authorized to live in Canada at the moment of the approval of your application for the Pension Plan
- You must have lived in Canada for at least 10 years after your 18th birthday

Guaranteed Income Supplement
The GIS provides a monthly, non-taxable benefit to OAS pension recipients living in Canada who have a low income.
You are eligible for the Guaranteed Income Supplement if you meet the following criteria:
- You receive the Old Age Security benefits
- Your annual income (or for a couple, your combined annual income) is less than the maximum threshold established for the year
