Montreal, May 10, 2021. - The Minister of Culture and Communications, Ms. Nathalie Roy, announces that after a 10-year wait, the cultural and community-based project Le Cube will finally be able to see the light of day. By providing a total amount of $ 19 million, the Government of Quebec is giving the necessary impetus to the creation of the International Center for Research and Creation in Theater for Children and Youth, in the heritage church of Sainte-Brigide-of-Kildare, in Montreal. Coming entirely from the Government of Quebec, these funds are exceptionally drawn from the cultural development agreement concluded with the City of Montreal. They will give new impetus to our artists and youth creation, while giving new life to a heritage church. The project will also contribute to the cultural and economic revival of downtown Montreal.

The Minister announced this happy outcome for the project at a press conference with the Minister of Canadian Heritage, the Honorable Steven Guilbeault, the Minister responsible for Metropolis and the Montreal region, Ms. Chantal Rouleau, and the mayor of Montreal, Ms. Valérie Plante.

Le Cube, whose mission revolves around research and experimentation, creation and development, is an initiative of the organizations Le Carrousel and Theater Le Clou. More specifically, the Cube project will allow the two theater companies to integrate places of creation adapted to their needs and aspirations. The Government of Quebec sees this project as a way of consolidating Quebec's expertise in theater for young audiences and promoting it on the international scene, while ensuring a quality theatrical offer for children and adolescents.

By financially supporting the Le Cube project, the Government of Quebec also wishes to contribute to the protection and enhancement of the Sainte-Brigide-of-Kildare church, a historic landmark in the heart of the Center-Sud district in the he borough of Ville-Marie, which has been vacant for more than 15 years and is looking for a new vocation. Le Cube is indeed in line with the government's vision of using surplus religious buildings.

Development works will begin in early 2022 and end in 2023.
