This week, our government is highlighting the contributions of persons with disabilities and continues to emphasize the need for inclusion as well as recognize the path that is still ahead to make Canada a truly disability-inclusive country. The theme of the week this year is “Disability Inclusion: From Possibilities to Practice.”
To succeed in our mission to promote the inclusion of persons with disabilities in all aspects of our society, last year, we appointed Canada's first Chief Accessibility Officer to serve as an independent special advisor to the Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Disability Inclusion. Ever since, the work hasn’t stopped.
As the 2019 landmark Accessible Canada Act is put into practice, our government continues to keep accessibility at the center of its employment strategy.
Furthermore, this year, the Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Disability Inclusion introduced the Canada Disability Benefit that was unanimously passed in the House of Commons last February.
When persons with disabilities have the same opportunities to contribute to their communities inclusively, everyone benefits, and the government will continue to work as hard as it can to achieve this goal.
