We wish to inform you of the following information sessions, federal calls for proposals, consultations, and appointment opportunities that are currently open. Of note, several funding programs are open at Environment and Climate Change Canada, the details are below.

INFORMATION SESSIONS AND TRAINING

Virtual tax information session for seniors
During these sessions, we will share information to help Canadian seniors receive the tax benefits and credits they are entitled to during this tax season. The tax clinic will be streamed live on the 
Seniors in Canada Facebook page. We will take questions from followers live during the event through the comments section. To join, please like or follow the Seniors in Canada Facebook page for real-time updates and tune in at the time of the event. You do not need to register in advance.

Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety
To support workplaces during the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety has made helpful products and resources free of charge until March 31, 2021, including free courses. https://www.ccohs.ca/products/courses/course_listing.html


CALLS FOR PROPOSALS

Aboriginal fund for species at risk
Deadline:  Tuesday March 2, 2021, 3 p.m.

The Aboriginal Fund for Species at Risk (AFSAR) was established in 2004 and supports the development of Indigenous capacity to participate actively in the implementation of the
 Species at Risk Act (SARA). The Act recognizes the important role that Indigenous Peoples play in wildlife conservation and the need to consider Aboriginal Traditional Knowledge (ATK) in the assessment of which species may be at risk, as well as in the development and implementation of protection and recovery measures. Additionally, AFSAR supports projects that will proactively prevent species, other than species at risk, from becoming a conservation concern.

Habitat stewardship program

Deadline:  Tuesday March 2, 2021, 3.p.m.
The Habitat Stewardship Program (HSP) is an application-based funding program that provides funding for projects submitted by Canadians that contribute directly to the recovery objectives and population goals of species at risk listed on Schedule 1 of the Species at Risk Act (SARA) and that prevent others from becoming a conservation concern.

EcoAction community funding program
Deadline:  Wednesday March 3, 2021, 3 p.m.

The EcoAction Community Funding Program funds projects across Canada to encourage Canadians to take action to address Clean Water, and to build the capacity of communities to sustain these activities into the future. Your organization may be eligible to receive financial support from Environment and Climate Change Canada's EcoAction Community Funding Program to address environmental issues of importance in your community. Your project must have measurable, positive environmental results and promote community participation.

Great Lakes protection initiative

Deadline: Wednesday March 3, 2021
This initiative addresses the most significant environmental challenges affecting Great Lakes water quality and ecosystem health. The projects we fund help us deliver on Canada’s commitments under the Canada-United States Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement. This includes projects that restore the water quality and aquatic ecosystem health of Canadian Areas of Concern (AOCs).

Canada Healthy Communities Initiative (CHCI)
Deadline for the first round of funding : Tuesday March 9, 2021

A second round for project proposals will begin in May 2021.

The Government of Canada and Community Foundations of Canada launched an intake for COVID-19 resilient projects under the Canada Healthy Communities Initiative (CHCI). The program will provide up to $31 million in federal funding to support community-led solutions that respond to immediate and ongoing needs arising from COVID-19 over the next two years. Projects funded by this initiative will fall under three main themes:

Local governments and community-led organizations can apply for funding ranging from $5,000 to $250,000 for eligible projects.

Lake Winnipeg basin program

Deadline:  Friday March 19, 2021
The Government of Canada is taking action to improve the ecological health of Lake Winnipeg and its basin, which is experiencing large and frequent algal blooms due to high nutrient levels from multiple transboundary sources including agriculture, industry, municipal wastewater and surface run-off.   In order to address freshwater issues in the basin, Environment and Climate Change Canada's Lake Winnipeg Basin Program provides financial support for projects that are aimed at reducing nutrients, enhancing collaboration and supporting the engagement of Indigenous Peoples.

Feminist Response and Recovery Fund
Deadline : Thursday March 25 at 3pm

The COVID-19 pandemic has magnified systemic and longstanding inequalities, with women and girls disproportionately affected by the crisis. The Government of Canada is taking strong action to prevent the pandemic from rolling back progress or reversing the hard-won gains of women in Canada. The government launched a new call for proposals through Women and Gender Equality Canada’s Women’s Program. The call, entitled “Feminist Response and Recovery Fund”, will provide $100 million for projects helping recipient organizations to launch new projects or scale up past projects that increase women and girls' participation in Canada’s economic, social, democratic and political life.

Growing Canada’s Forests program
Deadlines : Thursday, March 25, 2021 5:00 p.m. and Thursday, May 27, 2021 5:00 p.m.
The Growing Canada’s Forests (GCF) program is the Government of Canada’s response to its commitment to plant an additional two billion trees by 2030.

We are seeking Requests for Information (RFI) from potential future participants interested in implementing or contributing to large-scale single or multiple-year tree planting projects.
Deadline: Thursday, May 27, 2021 5:00 pm

We are also accepting Expressions of Interests (EOI) from experienced organizations for early start projects to implement new tree planting projects or add to existing tree planting
projects for the fast approaching 2021 growing season.

Salish Sea Marine vessel Emissions Reductions program

Deadline: Wednesday March 31, 2021
The Salish Sea Marine Emission Reductions Fund (SSMERF) will help reduce air pollutant and greenhouse gas emissions from domestic marine vessels or fleets operating in the Canadian portion of the Salish Sea. The Salish Sea is located in the Pacific Northwest waters of British Columbia in Canada.

Canada Nature Fund - Priority Places

Deadline: Thursday April 15, 2021, 3 p.m.

Community-Nominated Priority Places (CNPP) for Species at Risk is part of Canada’s Nature Fund. CNPP will support multi-partner initiatives in priority places where there are opportunities to protect and recover species at risk and their habitat through multi-species and ecosystem-based conservation action.

Deep Space Food Challenge
Deadline : Friday, July 30, 2021

The Canadian Space Agency (CSA) announced the 
Deep Space Food Challenge in Canada, a competition to develop innovative ways of producing food for astronauts on space missions to the Moon and Mars, while expanding opportunities for food production on Earth. The Deep Space Food Challenge is in line with Canada's Space Strategy's commitment to harness space to solve everyday challenges on Earth – like access to nutritious food. All Canadian innovators are invited to submit a design concept for their food production technology by July 30, 2021. News Release

2 - Government of Canada has launched consultations on how to implement its CUSMA commitment to extend Canada’s general copyright term of protection. NR. Deadline : Friday  March 12, 2021

 

3 - The CRTC launched a consultation on its proposed framework to address botnets, harmful networks of malware-infected computers that are under the control of a malicious actor. NR. Deadline : Monday, March 15, 2021

 

4 - Health Canada launched a public engagement process to advance the National Strategy for High-Cost Drugs and Rare DiseasesNR. Deadline : Friday, March 26, 2021


5 - Canada Launches Radioactive Waste Policy Engagement.

6 - The federal government has launched the consultation phase of the Canada Grain Act review. NR. Deadline : Friday, April 30, 2021

7 - The government launched the engagement phase in the development of Canada’s Blue Economy Strategy. Canada’s Blue Economy Strategy is expected to contribute to sustainable oceans, drive investment in our ocean industries, and create jobs in coastal communities as Canada charts its economic recovery from COVID-19. NRPortal.
