We draw your attention in particular on the Canada Healthy Communities Initiative (deadline : Friday, June 25 2021) and on the Green and Inclusive Community Buildings program (deadline : Tuesday, July 6 2021)

Canada Summer Jobs Portal : The portal for Canada Summer Jobs is open, with more than 150,000 full and part-time job opportunities available for young Canadians for a minimum of 6 weeks between April 2021 and February 2022. http://jobbank.gc.ca/home

 

2021 Census : Every five years, Canadians are invited to participate in the census to help paint a portrait of Canada's diverse population and the places where we live. The Census of Population provides information that helps Canadians make important decisions that affect our families, our neighbourhoods and our businesses. Women Entrepreneurship Knowledge Hub : The Government of Canada is funding the Women Entrepreneurship Knowledge Hub (WEKH), a one-stop source of knowledge, data and best practices for women entrepreneurs. National in scope, WEKH will be made up of ten regional hubs, which will work together to coordinate activities in different regions. Each of the regional hubs brings its unique area of expertise and specialization to the Hub. www.wekh.ca

CALLS FOR PROPOSALS

The 50-30 Challenge to improve diversity and inclusion at senior levels of management
In Fall 2020, the federal government launched the #5030Challenge to improve diversity and inclusion at senior levels of management across sectors in the country. The Challenge is offered in three distinct streams : large corporations; small and medium-sized enterprises (SME); post-secondary institutions, not-for-profits and charities. The streams allow participating organizations to strive to achieve their 50 – 30 goals in a way that best suits and reflects their needs and acknowledges the variety of sizes and structures of organizations, including those without boards of directors or senior management teams.

Smart Renewables and Electrification Pathways Program

Smart Renewables and Electrification Pathways Program (nrcan.gc.ca) provides up to $964 million over four years for smart renewable energy and grid modernization projects. It will provide direct financial support to eligible renewable energy and grid modernization projects during the construction phase. Projects must use market ready technologies and apply workplace equity, diversity, and inclusion components.

Second round of Housing Supply Challenge

Challenge launches on Wednesday, June 9 2021
The second round of funding for the Housing Supply Challenge will be launched on June 9th, 2021. The challenge invites Canadian citizens, stakeholders and experts to present solutions that address Canada’s housing challenges. Youth Employment and Skills Program
Deadline : Available as long as funds are available

The Youth Employment and Skills Program provides a wage subsidy to employers who hire youth for agricultural jobs. The program offers support for 50% of wages to a maximum of $14,000. 
Eligible applicants include producers, agri-businesses, industry associations, provincial and territorial governments, Indigenous organizations and research facilities. Airport Critical Infrastructure Program

Deadline : Available as long as funds are available

The Airport Critical Infrastructure Program (ACIP) is a new contribution funding program to help Canada’s large airports make critical investments in safety, security or transit infrastructure. Detailed project proposals will be evaluated as they are received and grouped into two groups for consideration : full project proposals received by May 24, 2021 and full project proposals received between May 25 and July 1, 2021. Growing Canada’s Forests program
Deadline : Thursday, May 27 2021 5:00 pm
The Growing Canada’s Forests (GCF) program is the Government of Canada’s response to its commitment to plant an additional two billion trees by 2030. We are seeking Requests for Information (RFI) from potential future participants interested in implementing or contributing to large-scale single or multiple-year tree planting projects.

 

Capacity-building funding for An Act respecting First Nations, Inuit and Métis children, youth and families for fiscal year 2021 to 2022

Deadline: Friday, May 28 2021

A call for proposals has been launched to support Indigenous Peoples, communities, and groups as they begin work to develop their own legislation and explore Indigenous-led models for child and family services. More specifically, this funding is intended to provide support to Indigenous Peoples, communities and groups wishing to: Explore models and options to exercise jurisdiction; Develop Indigenous child and family service legislation, systems, and programs  prior to entering into tripartite coordination agreement discussions with federal and provincial or territorial governments. Capacity-building funding for An Act respecting First Nations, Inuit and Métis children, youth and families for fiscal year 2021 to 2022 (sac-isc.gc.ca)

Competition for the Reuse of Materials from the Champlain Bridge
Deadline for the first state of the competition : Monday, May 31 2021
A Canada-wide competition was launched by the Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) for projects that aim to reuse materials from the deconstruction of the original Champlain Bridge at a symbolic cost. The competition seeks to encourage the reuse of construction materials by giving a second life to over 400 steel components from the original Bridge. The JCCBI’s first step has been to launch a Call for Participation that will help gauge the interest of individuals, companies, and organizations in reusing components for architectural, artistic, commemorative, or creative projects. This stage of the competition will last until May 31, during which time proponents can submit an Express of Interest Form, which can be found on the JCCBI’s website. Website

Reaching Home: Canada’s Homelessness Strategy
National Call for Concepts under the Community Capacity and Innovation stream

Deadline : Friday, June 11 2021

Contribution funding is available under the Community Capacity and Innovation (CCI) stream, a funding stream under Reaching Home: Canada’s Homelessness Strategy. Organizations can apply for $100,000 up to $600,000 in contribution funding over 3 years. The overall funding available for new projects is around $6 million over 3 fiscal years: 2021 to 2022; 2022 to 2023; 2023 to 2024. This funding supports projects that aim to test or develop innovative approaches to build capacity within the homeless serving sector, or to eliminate or prevent homelessness in Canada. Website

 

Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP)

Deadline for the current request for proposals : Tuesday, June 22 2021

Funded through Budget 2019 and the 2020 Fall Economic Statement, the Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP) is a 5-year $280 million program ending in 2024. Its objective is to address the lack of charging and refuelling stations in Canada, one of the key barriers to ZEV adoption, by increasing the availability of localized charging and hydrogen refuelling opportunities where Canadians live, work, and play. The Request for Proposals focusing on public places, on-street, multi-unit residential buildings, workplaces and light-duty vehicle fleets is now open. Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (nrcan.gc.ca)

 

Canada Healthy Communities Initiative

Deadline: Friday, June 25 2021 5 pm PST

The second round intake for the Canada Healthy Communities Initiative (CHCI) has been launched. Organizations and municipalities will be able to apply via the Community Foundations of Canada (CFC) website HERE. The Healthy Communities Initiative will provide funding to a broad range of organizations, including local governments, charities, Indigenous communities and nonprofits, for projects, programming and services that help communities create safe and vibrant public spaces, improve mobility options and provide innovative digital solutions.

 

Green and Inclusive Community Buildings

Deadline: Tuesday, July 6 2021

A new investment of $1.5 billion over five years through the Green and Inclusive Community Buildings Program will improve the condition and availability of community buildings. This program supports the renovation, repair, and modernization of existing public community buildings, as well as the construction of new public community buildings. Municipalities and NPOs are eligible for this program. To be considered eligible, the building must belong to the applicant and be used by citizens. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis for projects under $3 million (small and medium-sized renovation projects) and until July 6, 2021 for projects between $3 million and $25 million (major renovations). Infrastructure Canada - Green and Inclusive Community Buildings Program

 

Indigenous Forestry Initiative (IFI)

Deadline: Wednesday, July 7 2021

The next call for proposals for the Indigenous Forestry Initiative (IFI) has been launched to support Indigenous participation in forestry-related opportunities, businesses, careers and governance. Investments in successful projects will advance Canada’s bioeconomy, create opportunities for increased Indigenous participation in the forest sector and create and maintain jobs in Indigenous communities across the country. Website

Energy advisor recruitment, training and mentorship campaign

Deadline: Thursday, July 8 2021

The energy advisor recruitment, training and mentorship campaign will provide a total of $10 million in funding over 5 years to support innovative projects. Investments in Forest Industry Transformation (IFIT) program

Deadline: Thursday, July 22 2021 5pm

A call for proposals has been launched under the Investments in Forest Industry Transformation (IFIT) program. Investments in successful projects will help lower emissions, create jobs and reach our climate goals while supporting workers in Canada’s forestry sector. News Release


Deep Space Food Challenge
Deadline : Friday, July 30, 2021

The Canadian Space Agency (CSA) announced the 
Deep Space Food Challenge in Canada, a competition to develop innovative ways of producing food for astronauts on space missions to the Moon and Mars, while expanding opportunities for food production on Earth. The Deep Space Food Challenge is in line with Canada's Space Strategy's commitment to harness space to solve everyday challenges on Earth – like access to nutritious food. Rail Safety Improvement Program

Deadline: Sunday, August 1st 2021

Transport Canada’s Rail Safety Improvement Program provides federal funding in the form of grants or contributions to provinces, territories, municipalities, and local governments, road and transit authorities, crown corporations, for-profit and not-for-profit organizations (including academia), Indigenous groups, communities and organizations and individuals to help improve rail safety and reduce injuries and fatalities related to rail transportation. Rail Safety Improvement Program (canada.ca)

 

PUBLIC CONSULTATIONS

Be part of the LGBTQ2 Action Plan

Deadline: Monday, May 31 2021

The Government of Canada recognizes the historic and ongoing roles that LGBTQ2 civil society organizations play in advocating for the rights of Two-Spirit and LGBTQ people, and in building safer and more resilient communities through various grassroots initiatives. This is why we are committed to hearing from LGBTQ2 civil society organizations throughout the engagement process to build the first federal LGBTQ2 Action Plan. As part of this commitment, the LGBTQ2 Secretariat is calling on civil society organizations to submit written submissions by May 31, 2021, through an online submission form. The form provides opportunities for organizations to share their views on policies and programs that could be improved and suggest new measures that could be undertaken as part of the Action Plan. Website

Canadian Artists and Content Creators Economic Survey

Canadian Heritage is launching the new Canadian Artists and Content Creators Economic Survey. All Canadian artists and content creators are invited to take part, to help shed light on their experiences working and earning a living in a pre- and post-COVID-19 world. Canada’s first National Infrastructure Assessment

The government has launched an engagement document on Canada’s first National Infrastructure Assessment, “Building the Canada We Want in 2050”. This document outlines the purpose and benefits of a national infrastructure assessment and seeks input from the public, Indigenous peoples, provinces, territories, municipalities and stakeholders on three key priorities: Assess Canada’s infrastructure needs and establish a long-term vision; Improve coordination between infrastructure owners and funders; and Determine the best ways to fund infrastructure. News Release

Consultation with Electric Vehicle Charging Station Operators and Equipment Manufacturers, and Consumers

Effects of Pharmaceutical Mergers

Through its participation in the Multilateral Pharmaceutical Merger Task Force, the Competition Bureau, with its counterparts in the U.S., the European Union and the U.K., is reviewing its approach to the analysis of pharmaceutical mergers. The task force is seeking input from stakeholders to inform its review of a variety of issues related to mergers in the pharmaceutical industry, including potential new or refreshed theories of harm, the evaluation of the effects of a merger on innovation and potential remedies to resolve competition concerns. Interested parties encouraged to share views with task force examining effects of pharmaceutical mergers - Canada.ca

On International Women’s Day, Women and Gender Equality Canada launched a new call for nominations for the Women of Impact Gallery. The Gallery celebrates women who have made significant contributions to Canada in five fields: Arts, Human Rights, Politics, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), as well as trailblazing women who have been the first in their fields. It’s important that the Gallery reflects the diversity of Canadian society and that includes the incredible, trailblazing community leaders right here in Laurier-Sainte-Marie.
