Online Course Provides COVID-19 Guidance for Temporary Foreign Workers
Prevent the Spread of COVID-19: Guidance for Temporary Foreign Workers is available for free in English, French and Spanish, and provides information for workers on the factors that significantly contribute to the introduction and spread of COVID-19 in the workplace, the control measures to take to protect themselves while working, living and travelling to and from work, and what to do if they become sick with COVID-19.

 

New Canada Recovery Hiring Program and Extension of Business Support Programs

The Canada Recovery Hiring Program will help hard hit businesses hire the workers they need to recover and grow, and to do so at a pace that works for them, as different jurisdictions open at different paces. It provides eligible employers who have experienced a qualifying revenue decline with a subsidy of up to 50 per cent of eligible salary or wages so they can hire more workers, increase workers’ hours, or increase wages. The program will be available retroactively to June 6, 2021. Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP)

Deadline for the current request for proposals : Tuesday, June 22, 2021

Funded through Budget 2019 and the 2020 Fall Economic Statement, the Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP) is a 5-year $280 million program ending in 2024. Its objective is to address the lack of charging and refuelling stations in Canada, one of the key barriers to ZEV adoption, by increasing the availability of localized charging and hydrogen refuelling opportunities where Canadians live, work, and play. The Request for Proposals focusing on public places, on-street, multi-unit residential buildings, workplaces and light-duty vehicle fleets is now open. Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (nrcan.gc.ca)

 

Canada Healthy Communities Initiative

Deadline : Friday, June 25, 2021 at 5pm PST

The second round intake for the Canada Healthy Communities Initiative (CHCI) has been launched. Organizations and municipalities will be able to apply via the Community Foundations of Canada (CFC) website HERE. The Healthy Communities Initiative will provide funding to a broad range of organizations, including local governments, charities, Indigenous communities and nonprofits, for projects, programming and services that help communities create safe and vibrant public spaces, improve mobility options and provide innovative digital solutions.

 

Women’s Employment Readiness pilot program

Deadline : Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at 3pm

The Women’s Employment Readiness (WER) pilot program will fund organizations to provide and test new approaches for helping marginalized women, including racialized and Indigenous women, women with disabilities, women from the LGBTQ2 community, and women with prolonged detachment from the labour force, by providing pre-employment and training supports. Apply for funding for Women’s Employment Readiness pilot program - Canada.ca

Grant applications from eligible community organizations that host free tax clinics

Deadline : Wednesday, June 30, 2021

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) will accept grant applications from community organizations that offered free tax clinics in 2021 through the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) and the Income Tax Assistance – Volunteer Program in Quebec. Non-profits, charities or community groups can apply for the grants and may receive up to $10,000. Website

 

Green and Inclusive Community Buildings

Deadline : Tuesday, July 6, 2021

A new investment of $1.5 billion over five years through the Green and Inclusive Community Buildings Program will improve the condition and availability of community buildings. This program supports the renovation, repair, and modernization of existing public community buildings, as well as the construction of new public community buildings. Municipalities and NPOs are eligible for this program. To be considered eligible, the building must belong to the applicant and be used by citizens. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis for projects under $3 million (small and medium-sized renovation projects) and until July 6, 2021 for projects between $3 million and $25 million (major renovations). Infrastructure Canada - Green and Inclusive Community Buildings Program

 

Improving the financial wellbeing and social inclusion of vulnerable Canadians

Deadline : Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. EDT

The federal government launched two calls for proposals for a total of up to $39 million over five years for projects to support financial empowerment and the social inclusion of vulnerable children and youth.
Eligible organizations can apply for up to $3 million in funding to support projects that focus on one of two objectives:

Indigenous Forestry Initiative (IFI)

Deadline : Wednesday, July 7, 2021

The next call for proposals for the Indigenous Forestry Initiative (IFI) has been launched to support Indigenous participation in forestry-related opportunities, businesses, careers and governance. Investments in successful projects will advance Canada’s bioeconomy, create opportunities for increased Indigenous participation in the forest sector and create and maintain jobs in Indigenous communities across the country. Website

 

Second call for proposals of the Ghost Gear Fund

The government launched a second call for proposals under the Ghost Gear Fund to support three new priorities:

Energy advisor recruitment, training and mentorship campaign

The energy advisor recruitment, training and mentorship campaign will provide a total of $10 million in funding over 5 years to support innovative projects. Two initiatives in support of the 50 – 30 Challenge

Deadline for applications : Monday, July 19, 2021

The federal governement launched two initiatives that will help Canadian businesses and organizations that have signed on to the 50 – 30 Challenge quickly and effectively adopt diversity and inclusion best practices and policies in support of their 50 – 30 Challenge commitments.

  1. Organizations are invited to respond to the request for proposals on Canada’s Buy and Sell website for the development of the What Works Toolkit. 
  2. A call for applications for the 50 – 30 Challenge Ecosystem Fund is also being launched on Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada’s website. Through this process, the government will provide funding to select diversity-serving organizations, which will work directly with Challenge participants to provide guidance, tools and other diversity supports specific to participants’ unique needs.

 

Investments in Forest Industry Transformation (IFIT) program

A call for proposals has been launched under the Investments in Forest Industry Transformation (IFIT) program. Investments in successful projects will help lower emissions, create jobs and reach our climate goals while supporting workers in Canada’s forestry sector. News Release

 

Enabling Accessibility Fund - Funding for mid-sized projects

Deadline : Thursday, July 29, 2021 at 5pm

This program will fund projects that make communities and workplaces more accessible for persons with disabilities. The Enabling Accessibility Fund will help creates more opportunities for persons with disabilities to:

Projects must be ready to start on or after April 1, 2022 and must be completed by March 31, 2024. Eligible organizations can apply for a minimum of $350,000 and a maximum of $1,000,000 (per project). Apply for funding for the mid-sized projects under the Enabling Accessibility Fund - Canada.ca


Deep Space Food Challenge
Deadline : Friday, July 30, 2021

The Canadian Space Agency (CSA) announced the 
Deep Space Food Challenge in Canada, a competition to develop innovative ways of producing food for astronauts on space missions to the Moon and Mars, while expanding opportunities for food production on Earth. The Deep Space Food Challenge is in line with Canada's Space Strategy's commitment to harness space to solve everyday challenges on Earth – like access to nutritious food. Rail Safety Improvement Program

Deadline : Sunday, August 1st, 2021

Transport Canada’s Rail Safety Improvement Program provides federal funding in the form of grants or contributions to provinces, territories, municipalities, and local governments, road and transit authorities, crown corporations, for-profit and not-for-profit organizations (including academia), Indigenous groups, communities and organizations and individuals to help improve rail safety and reduce injuries and fatalities related to rail transportation. Rail Safety Improvement Program (canada.ca)

 

Second round of Housing Supply Challenge

Deadline : Wednesday, August 25, 2021
The government launched the second round of funding for the Housing Supply Challenge. The challenge invites Canadian citizens, stakeholders and experts to present solutions that address Canada’s housing challenges. It will address barriers that limit housing supply and undermine affordability, introduce new ideas and solutions, and foster collaboration and partnerships. Website

 

Second half of $20-million Food Waste Reduction Challenge

Deadline : Tuesday, August 31, 2021

To help spark new ideas and engage diverse perspectives, the Government of Canada launched the $20-million Food Waste Reduction Challenge in November 2020, calling for innovators to deliver game-changing solutions to this long-standing and complex issue. The Challenge's novel technology streams (Streams C and D) are now open for concept applications. Up to $6.5 million in prize funding will be awarded to innovators with novel technologies that can extend the life of food or transform food that would otherwise be lost or wasted. Website

 

Boating Safety Contribution Program - Recreational Boating Safety component

Deadline : Friday, October 15, 2021

The Boating Safety Contribution Program (BSCP) helps organizations promote boating safety or conduct research on the most effective ways to change boating behaviours in Canada. Transport Canada is now accepting applications under the Recreational Boating Safety Component for projects that will begin in 2022-23.

Accessibility Fund - Youth Innovation component
Deadline : Friday, October 29, 2021 5pm
The Youth Innovation component seeks to engage and challenge youth between 15 and 30 years of age, to volunteer and collaborate with local organizations in their communities to secure funding of up to $10,000 for accessibility projects. Website


Black Entrepreneurship Program
Deadline : N/A

The Black Entrepreneurship Loan Fund will provide loans up to $250,000 to Black business owners and entrepreneurs across the country. The Government of Canada has announced that the Loan Fund is accepting loan applications from Black business owners and entrepreneurs through the Federation of African Canadian Economics (FACE). Website


Youth Employment and Skills Program
Deadline : Available as long as funds are available

The Youth Employment and Skills Program provides a wage subsidy to employers who hire youth for agricultural jobs. The program offers support for 50% of wages to a maximum of $14,000. Eligible applicants include producers, agri-businesses, industry associations, provincial and territorial governments, Indigenous organizations and research facilities. Indigenous Community Support Fund (needs-based support requests)

The request process for needs-based support recently reopened and Indigenous communities and organizations can request funding now. Poultry and Egg On-Farm Investment Program (PEFIP)

Smart Renewables and Electrification Pathways Program

Canada’s first National Infrastructure Assessment

The government has launched an engagement document on Canada’s first National Infrastructure Assessment, “Building the Canada We Want in 2050”. This document outlines the purpose and benefits of a national infrastructure assessment and seeks input from the public, Indigenous peoples, provinces, territories, municipalities and stakeholders on three key priorities: Assess Canada’s infrastructure needs and establish a long-term vision; Improve coordination between infrastructure owners and funders; and Determine the best ways to fund infrastructure. News Release

Federal policy definition of senior abuse

The federal government announced the launch of consultations with experts, stakeholders and Canadians on a definition of senior abuse. The creation of a federal policy definition of senior abuse will support more consistent and informed awareness and prevention activities, data collection, as well as program and service delivery. After the consultations close, a “What we heard” report will be released and a draft definition will be circulated to partners for feedback before the definition is released.

 

Canada’s first Disability Inclusion Action Plan

The federal government launched a public engagement process to help guide the development of the DIAP.  An accessible survey is now available online to allow Canadians to provide valuable insights and feedback on priority areas of the plan. Website

 

Establishment of a three-digit number for mental health crisis and suicide prevention services

Deadline : Wednesday, September 1st, 2021

The CRTC is inviting all interested persons to comment on whether there is a need for a three-digit number, such as the 9-8-8 three digit code in the United States, for a national mental health crisis and suicide prevention service. Investment tax credit for carbon capture, utilization, and storage

The Department of Finance is launching consultations with stakeholders on the recent federal budget’s proposal to introduce a new investment tax credit for capital invested in carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) projects. 

 

Consultation with Electric Vehicle Charging Station Operators and Equipment Manufacturers, and Consumers

Deadline : Thursday, September 30, 2021

Effects of Pharmaceutical Mergers

Through its participation in the Multilateral Pharmaceutical Merger Task Force, the Competition Bureau, with its counterparts in the U.S., the European Union and the U.K., is reviewing its approach to the analysis of pharmaceutical mergers. The task force is seeking input from stakeholders to inform its review of a variety of issues related to mergers in the pharmaceutical industry, including potential new or refreshed theories of harm, the evaluation of the effects of a merger on innovation and potential remedies to resolve competition concerns. Interested parties encouraged to share views with task force examining effects of pharmaceutical mergers - Canada.ca

 

Share ideas: Next Agricultural Policy Framework

The government launched the federal consultation process for the Next Agricultural Policy Framework, which is a wide-ranging federal-provincial-territorial agreement. Consultations begin this month and will continue through the spring of 2022.
