We wish to inform you of the following federal calls for proposals, consultations, and appointment opportunities that are currently open.

We bring your attention in particular to the $500 million Canada Community Revitalization Fund
 (deadline: Friday, July 23, 2021 or on a continuous basis should there be remaining funding) and to the Local Food Infrastructure Fund (deadline: Friday, August 13, 2021).

Canada Recovery Hiring Program (CRHP)

Next deadline: Thursday, December 30, 2021

As a Canadian employer who continues to be impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, you may be eligible to apply for one of the two subsidies to cover part of your employee wages. The Canada Recovery Hiring Program (CRHP) and the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS) support wages you pay through different phases of your economic recovery. Each claim period, eligible employers can claim either CRHP or CEWS, whichever is higher. The CRHP offers subsidies to Canadian employers to support hiring new workers and increasing their workers’ hours.

 

Skills for Success program

The government launched Skills for Success, a new skills training program to help Canadians improve their foundational skills so they can find and keep good jobs. The program will provide training to nearly 90,000 Canadians and help get them back to work.

CALLS FOR PROPOSALS

 

Initiative in support of the 50 – 30 Challenge

Deadline for applications : Monday, July 19, 2021

The federal government launched two initiatives that will help Canadian businesses and organizations that have signed on to the 50 – 30 Challenge quickly and effectively adopt diversity and inclusion best practices and policies in support of their 50 – 30 Challenge commitments. A call for applications for the 50 – 30 Challenge Ecosystem Fund is also being launched on Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada’s website. Through this process, the government will provide funding to select diversity-serving organizations, which will work directly with Challenge participants to provide guidance, tools and other diversity supports specific to participants’ unique needs.

 

Investments in Forest Industry Transformation (IFIT) program

Deadline : Thursday, July 22, 2021 at 5pm

A call for proposals has been launched under the Investments in Forest Industry Transformation (IFIT) program. Investments in successful projects will help lower emissions, create jobs and reach our climate goals while supporting workers in Canada’s forestry sector. News Release

 

Canada Community Revitalization Fund

Deadline: Friday, July 23, 2021 or on a continuous basis should there be remaining funding

The Canada Community Revitalization Fund  is a two-year, $500 million national infrastructure program to revitalize communities across Canada. Not-for-profit organizations, municipalities and other public institutions, and Indigenous communities can apply for funding for projects that aim to:

Scheduled intake: A one-time special scheduled intake will focus on eligible projects that are ready to proceed. Initial screening will begin during the four week period. Assessment of applications will begin on July 23, 2021, 23:59 PDT. Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit their applications by this date.
Continuous intake: Should there be remaining funding after the scheduled intake period, applications will continue to be accepted and funded on a continuous intake basis over the next two years or until such a time as the allocated funding is fully distributed.

 

Enabling Accessibility Fund - Funding for mid-sized projects

Deadline: Thursday, July 29, 2021 at 5pm

This program will fund projects that make communities and workplaces more accessible for persons with disabilities. The Enabling Accessibility Fund will help creates more opportunities for persons with disabilities to take part in community activities, programs and services; access employment. Projects must be ready to start on or after April 1, 2022 and must be completed by March 31, 2024. Eligible organizations can apply for a minimum of $350,000 and a maximum of $1,000,000 (per project). Apply for funding for the mid-sized projects under the Enabling Accessibility Fund - Canada.ca


Deep Space Food Challenge
Deadline : Friday, July 30, 2021

The Canadian Space Agency (CSA) announced the 
Deep Space Food Challenge in Canada, a competition to develop innovative ways of producing food for astronauts on space missions to the Moon and Mars, while expanding opportunities for food production on Earth. The Deep Space Food Challenge is in line with Canada's Space Strategy's commitment to harness space to solve everyday challenges on Earth – like access to nutritious food. All Canadian innovators are invited to submit a design concept for their food production technology by July 30, 2021. News Release

Rail Safety Improvement Program

Deadline : Sunday, August 1st, 2021

Transport Canada’s Rail Safety Improvement Program provides federal funding in the form of grants or contributions to provinces, territories, municipalities, and local governments, road and transit authorities, crown corporations, for-profit and not-for-profit organizations (including academia), Indigenous groups, communities and organizations and individuals to help improve rail safety and reduce injuries and fatalities related to rail transportation. Rail Safety Improvement Program (canada.ca)

 

Canada Digital Adoption Program – Stream 1

Deadline: Friday, August 6, 2021

The federal government announced the launch of a call for applications for the Canada Digital Adoption Program’s (CDAP) first stream, Grow Your Business Online. The first stream will award funding of up to $336.8 million to not-for-profit organizations to support small businesses as they adopt digital technologies such as digital storefronts and e-commerce platforms, and expand their digital presence.

 

Local Food Infrastructure Fund

Deadline : Friday, August 13, 2021

The federal government announced a top-up of $10 million for the Local Food Infrastructure Fund. The new application intake will provide rapid-response grants valued between $15,000 and $100,000 to help prevent hunger through investments in infrastructure needs. Project impacts must be targeted, immediate, and directly related to addressing food insecurity and increasing the accessibility of healthy, nutritious and ideally local foods within the community.

 

Housing Supply Challenge – Second Round

Deadline : Wednesday, August 25, 2021
The federal government launched the second round of funding for the Housing Supply Challenge. The challenge invites Canadian citizens, stakeholders and experts to present solutions that address Canada’s housing challenges. It will address barriers that limit housing supply and undermine affordability, introduce new ideas and solutions, and foster collaboration and partnerships. Website

 

Second half of $20-million Food Waste Reduction Challenge

Deadline : Tuesday, August 31, 2021

To help spark new ideas and engage diverse perspectives, the Government of Canada launched the $20-million Food Waste Reduction Challenge in November 2020, calling for innovators to deliver game-changing solutions to this long-standing and complex issue. The Challenge's novel technology streams (Streams C and D) are now open for concept applications. Up to $6.5 million in prize funding will be awarded to innovators with novel technologies that can extend the life of food or transform food that would otherwise be lost or wasted. Website

 

Indigenous Intellectual Property Program Grant

Deadline: Wednesday, September 8, 2021

The Indigenous Intellectual Property Program Grant  funds eligible Indigenous organizations to fund travel, small-scale initiatives and projects related to intellectual property (IP), Indigenous knowledge (IK) and Indigenous cultural expressions (ICEs).

 

Clean Fuels Fund

Deadline: Wednesday, September 29, 2021

The federal government launched the request for proposals for the Clean Fuels Fund, which was originally announced in December 2020, to support the production and distribution of low-carbon and zero-emission fuels. Website

 

Boating Safety Contribution Program - Recreational Boating Safety component

Deadline : Friday, October 15, 2021

The Boating Safety Contribution Program (BSCP) helps organizations promote boating safety or conduct research on the most effective ways to change boating behaviours in Canada. Transport Canada is now accepting applications under the Recreational Boating Safety Component for projects that will begin in 2022-23.

Accessibility Fund - Youth Innovation component
Deadline : Friday, October 29, 2021 5pm
The Youth Innovation component seeks to engage and challenge youth between 15 and 30 years of age, to volunteer and collaborate with local organizations in their communities to secure funding of up to $10,000 for accessibility projects.

National Trade Corridors Fund (NTCF)

The National Trade Corridors Fund (NTCF) helps fund infrastructure projects in Canada. Infrastructure projects could include work to airports, ports, railways, transportation facilities, and access roads. We fund projects that:

Black Entrepreneurship Program
Deadline : N/A

The Black Entrepreneurship Loan Fund will provide loans up to $250,000 to Black business owners and entrepreneurs across the country. The Government of Canada has announced that the Loan Fund is accepting loan applications from Black business owners and entrepreneurs through the Federation of African Canadian Economics (FACE). Website

 

Major Festivals and Events Support Initiative

Deadline: Available as long as funds are available

The Major Festivals and Events Support Initiative  is a two-year, $200-million national fund to help major Canadian festivals survive and adapt to the pandemic. It will also help position them for post-pandemic economic recovery and growth.


Youth Employment and Skills Program
Deadline : Available as long as funds are available

The Youth Employment and Skills Program provides a wage subsidy to employers who hire youth for agricultural jobs. The program offers support for 50% of wages to a maximum of $14,000. Eligible applicants include producers, agri-businesses, industry associations, provincial and territorial governments, Indigenous organizations and research facilities. Support can cover the period from April 15, 2021 to March 31, 2022.

Indigenous Community Support Fund (needs-based support requests)

The request process for needs-based support recently reopened and Indigenous communities and organizations can request funding now. This Fund provides Indigenous leadership and organizations with the flexibility needed to design and implement community-based solutions to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of Indigenous Peoples. Indigenous Community Support Fund (sac-isc.gc.ca)

 

Smart Renewables and Electrification Pathways Program

Deadline : Available as long as funds are available

This program is a $964-million program which aims to support smart renewable energy and grid modernization projects that will lower emissions by investing in clean energy technologies, like wind, solar, storage, hydro, geothermal and tidal. Smart Renewables and Electrification Pathways Program (nrcan.gc.ca)

Agricultural Clean Technology Program

Deadline: Available as long as funds are available

This new program provides farmers and agri-businesses with access to funding to help develop and adopt the latest clean technologies to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and enhance their competitiveness. The new program has two funding streams: the Research and Innovation Stream and the Adoption Stream.  

 

Ministerial Initiative on Agri-Food Action/Prevention

Deadline: Multiple application periods are available

The federal Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, Marie-Claude Bibeau, and the Quebec Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, André Lamontagne, announced the creation of the Ministerial Initiative on Agri-Food Action/Prevention (MIAAP) for the management of health and food risks, which will remain in effect until March 1, 2023. This initiative aims to help organizations and businesses in Quebec’s agri-food sector to adopt good health and food risk management and control practices.

Fisheries and Aquaculture Clean Technology Adoption Program

Deadline: Available as long as funds are available

The federal government launched the renewed Fisheries and Aquaculture Clean Technology Adoption Program (FACTAP), with an investment of $10 million from Budget 2021 to extend the program for two more years. This program encourages Canadian fisheries and aquaculture industries to reduce the potential environmental impacts of their activities.

 

Tourism Relief Fund

Deadline: Available as long as funds are available

The Tourism Relief Fund is a $500-million national program that will help position Canada as a destination of choice when domestic and international travel is once again deemed safe, by empowering tourism businesses to create new or enhance existing tourism experiences and products to attract more local and domestic visitors and helping the sector reposition itself to welcome international visitors, by providing the best Canadian tourism experiences we have to offer the world. Initiatives under this fund will help tourism businesses and organizations: adapt their operations to meet public health requirements, improve their products and services and position themselves for post-pandemic economic recovery.

 

PUBLIC CONSULTATIONS

Federal policy definition of senior abuse
Deadline : 
Thursday, July 22, 2021
The federal government announced the launch of consultations with experts, stakeholders and Canadians on a definition of senior abuse. The creation of a federal policy definition of senior abuse will support more consistent and informed awareness and prevention activities, data collection, as well as program and service delivery. After the consultations close, a “What we heard” report will be released and a draft definition will be circulated to partners for feedback before the definition is released.

 

Consultation on the Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act

The federal government seeks feedback from the public and organizations subject to the provisions of Canada's Not-for-profit Corporations Act as part of a statutory review of the legislation. Website

 

Canada’s first Disability Inclusion Action Plan

Deadline : Tuesday, August 31, 2021

The federal government launched a public engagement process to help guide the development of the DIAP.  An accessible survey is now available online to allow Canadians to provide valuable insights and feedback on priority areas of the plan. Website

 

Establishment of a three-digit number for mental health crisis and suicide prevention services

Deadline : Wednesday, September 1st, 2021

The CRTC is inviting all interested persons to comment on whether there is a need for a three-digit number, such as the 9-8-8 three digit code in the United States, for a national mental health crisis and suicide prevention service. The CRTC is examining the advantages, challenges and costs associated with the deployment of this three-digit number. Intervention Comment Form (crtc.gc.ca)

 

Investment tax credit for carbon capture, utilization, and storage

The Department of Finance is launching consultations with stakeholders on the recent federal budget’s proposal to introduce a new investment tax credit for capital invested in carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) projects. 

 

Consultation with Electric Vehicle Charging Station Operators and Equipment Manufacturers, and Consumers

Deadline : Thursday, September 30, 2021

The government is seeking input from Canadians, including EV charging station operators, equipment manufacturers and consumers as part of the development of technical standards and requirements to allow EV charging station operators to bill their customers based on the amount of electricity consumed during the charging process. Website

 

Share ideas: Next Agricultural Policy Framework

The government launched the federal consultation process for the Next Agricultural Policy Framework, which is a wide-ranging federal-provincial-territorial agreement. Consultations will continue through the spring of 2022.
