Launch of applications for the expanded Canada Worker Lockdown Benefit

The government announced that the expanded access to CWLB is now in effect and Canadians in designated regions affected by lockdowns or qualifying capacity restrictions can apply for the benefit. This benefit provides $300 per week to eligible workers who cannot work due to temporary local lockdown or capacity restrictions between October 24, 2021 and May 7, 2022.

CALLS FOR PROPOSALS

Round 3, the Northern Access Round, of the Housing Supply Challenge

*The call for proposal will open in February 2022

Round 3 of the Housing Supply Challenge will open in February 2022. The government will invest up to $80M in funding for teams who put forward solutions that can improve Canada’s housing supply chain in northern and remote regions. Northern and remote areas see high costs to build and maintain housing due to high transportation costshigh investment riskslong timelines and limited access to resources and infrastructure.

 

Summer Leadership Program 2022

Deadline: Friday, January 21st 11:59PM local time

The Summer Leadership Program (SLP) is a unique political internship opportunity developed to invest in the future success of youth in this country. SLP gives young people across the country vital job experience serving in the offices of our Members of Parliament, Ministers, the Prime Minister`s Office and the Liberal Research Bureau. SLP 2022 will run from May 2nd to August 19th, 2022. Due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, SLP 2022 will be administered as a hybrid internship experience (virtual and in-person). Canada Summer Jobs Deadline : Tuesday, January 25, 2022

Not-for-profit employers can receive funding for up to 100% of the provincial or territorial adult minimum hourly wage and all associated Mandatory Employment Related Costs (MERCs). Public and private sector employers are eligible to receive funding for up to 50% of the provincial or territorial minimum hourly wage. Employers interested in applying for Canada Summer Jobs 2022 funding can submit their applications electronically via the online fillable application or the Grants and Contributions Online Service (GCOS). The online fillable application is the fastest way for employers to complete an application online without having to create an account.

Enabling Accessibility Funds - Early Learning and Child Care small projects component

Deadline: Friday, January 28, 2022 The government of Canada launched a call for proposals for the new Early Learning and Child Care small projects component under the Enabling Accessibility Funds. This stream will provide up to $25 million, over two years, to improve the accessibility and safety of approximately 350 regulated and/or licensed early learning and child centres across the country. The goal of this funding is to support persons with disabilities, including children, parents or guardians, and early childhood educators with disabilities and to ensure that all families across Canada have access to high-quality, affordable, and inclusive early learning and child care, no matter where they live. Eligible organizations can apply for up to $70,000 for:

National Anti-Racism Fund

Deadline: Friday, January 28, 2022

The National Anti-Racism Fund  will provide $3 million over two years for projects to develop, share and apply knowledge and expertise to contribute to the elimination of racism and all forms of racial discrimination in Canadian society. Proposals should be aligned with one or more of the following themes and objectives: Systemic racial barriers, Research and education, Public awareness and Cultural and intercultural community building.

Oceans Management Contribution Program Deadline : Friday, February 11, 2022 at 6 pm (EST)

The Government of Canada is committed to conserving 25% of Canada’s oceans by 2025, working towards 30% by 2030. The Oceans Management Contribution Program provides funding opportunities to eligible applicants to support marine conservation initiatives in the community, with an emphasis on outreach, monitoring and stewardship, and capacity building initiatives. https://www.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/oceans/funding-financement/management-gestion/index-eng.html

 

2 Billion Trees Program

Deadline: Thursday, February 17, 2022

The government opened the second application period and the call for applications for the 2 billion tree planting program. Tree Planting Grants are divided into three components: Mass Tree Planting (minimum 500,000 trees per year), Small Scale Planting (minimum 50,000 trees per year), and Urban and Peri-Urban Planting (minimum 10,000 trees per year). All three are accessible to Indigenous communities and organizations, as well as for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. Canada’s Volunteer Awards 2021 Deadline : Friday, March 4, 2022 Now is the time to nominate an outstanding individual, a not-for-profit organization, a social enterprise or a socially responsible business who has made a significant contribution in improving the lives of others in their community through volunteering. Help them get the recognition they deserve. 

Canada’s Volunteer Awards is a federal recognition program under the Department of Employment and Social Development Canada. In total, twenty-one awards will be presented, including one national award, the Thérèse Casgrain Lifelong Achievement award. This award recognizes individuals who demonstrate exceptional achievements through volunteering for at least 20 years. The 20 regional awards are distributed in the following four categories across five regions:

Women Entrepreneurship Strategy's Ecosystem Fund

Deadline: Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at 12:00 Pacific time

Under a new call for proposals, $25 million is being allocated to support new projects that address systemic barriers and gaps for women from diversity or intersectionality and under-served. The expected results of the project will help improve the participation of women entrepreneurs from diverse backgrounds in the economy by supporting initiatives that enable them to access services tailored to their unique needs, context and experiences.

PUBLIC CONSULTATIONS For a list of all consultations open : https://www.canada.ca/en/government/system/consultations/consultingcanadians.html Income Tax Mandatory Disclosure Rules Consultation A tax system in which everyone pays their fair share requires action on multiple fronts. This includes strengthening the Canada Revenue Agency’s ability to curtail tax evasion and aggressive tax avoidance. In support of this goal, the government is consulting on proposals to enhance Canada’s income tax mandatory disclosure rules. Details about this proposal are available in the Budget 2021 Annex 6 entitled Tax Measures: Supplementary Information. Specifically, this consultation will address changes proposed to the Income Tax Act’s reportable transaction rules, a new requirement to report notifiable transactions, and a new requirement for specified corporations to report uncertain tax treatments. Website Consultations on Canada’s 2030 Emission Reduction Plan Deadline: Friday, January 21, 2022 The Government is launching a series of consultations on key new emission reduction measures with the goal of tabling the 2030 Emissions Reduction Plan by the end of March 2022, as required by the Canadian Net-Zero Emissions Accountability Act. The emissions reduction plan will be based on consultations on the new commitments. Consultations on the Government’s commitment to require all new cars sold in Canada to be zero-emission by 2035

Deadline: Friday, January 21, 2022

To reduce emissions from light-duty vehicles, Canada has committed to requiring all new light-duty vehicles sold to be zero-emission by 2035. The Government is accepting written comments until January 21, 2022. These should be sent to [email protected] . Consultation on Border Carbon Adjustments Deadline : Monday, January 31, 2022 The government is committed to ensuring that Canada’s transition to a low-carbon economy is achieved in a way that is fair and predictable for Canadian firms and consumers, and that supports Canada’s global competitiveness. One mechanism to help achieve this would be through the establishment of border carbon adjustments (BCAs). BCAs are measures that can level the playing field when there are differences in carbon costs between trading partners by ensuring that imported goods face the same carbon costs as domestically produced goods. https://www.canada.ca/en/department-finance/programs/consultations/2021/border-carbon-adjustments.html

The Canada Revenue Agency wants to improve and expand the virtual tax clinics of the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program, to meet the needs of community organizations, volunteers, and Canadians.
